Career Paths and the Culture of Project Management

Being a project manager in many organizations means being stuck in the middle somewhere between a technical position and functional management. In some cases you get the title without a well-defined job description or any guidance about leading a project. And forget about competency models - in many organizations they are just a fantasy.  So what does a true project management career path look like? And how can you define one that works in your organization – even when your organization may not admit that they have positions called “project manager”?

In this one-hour discussion with an organizational development and project management specialist, find out what other companies are doing to establish project management as a “real” career and discover personal development options to climb this career ladder. We’ll also look at the latest PMI research and guidance in The Project Manager Competency Development Framework and what you can expect at each rung of the ladder based on the latest Project Manager Salary Survey. Whether you are a manager looking to establish or redefine your organization or a frustrated project manager wondering what your next steps should be, you’ll get a clear understanding of how project organizational cultures, career paths and development planning can work for you.
